I haven't traveled in years. I decided to change that. I created a digital vision board full of images of things I wanted to bring into my life. One of these things was a rich night sky full of stars. This can't be witnessed in the city. It happens in places like Taos, New Mexico.
Taos was my home for 17 years. It's where my son was raised. "A lot of my changes were there"(Neil Young). I have been too busy to go, wasn't sure where I would stay and wasn't sure it was a good idea to look back, but decided I was open to change. A good thing, right?
In late July my close friend Ann Spicer called and said she had a friend with a new home in Taos and asked if I would like to go. There it was. The opportunity I was asking for in my vision board. On August 3rd, the night before we were to embark, all the doors opened wide and we decided to head out at five am... it was six, but off we went. The following photo essay is the story of my trip. Thank you Ann, Joyce, Storma, Lexi, Mary and Anna. Next time Katrina...you just have to. Love you all. This Taos blog is the first of 3 about my return trip home.
I have this thing for hummingbirds. This is Joyce's favorite one. She told us about him and one morning I was able to capture him in all his glory. This is the morning that we set out to see one of my favorite places I lived in Taos.
The Pink House was built for DH Lawrence by Mable Dodge Luhan. He created paintings inside on medicince cabinents and closets. The word from neighbors was that the toilet at one point was painted like a serpent. We lived there for a few years. Because it was written up in several books some mornings we would wake to little old ladies peaking in the windows.
This labyrinth was constructed on the Mable Dodge Luhan property just behind the Pink House on Morada Lane.
Ann at the Conference Center on the Mable Dodge Luhan property. I have been to some wonderful events here. My favorite was when a group of Tibetan Monks from Deprung Loseling Monastery built a mandala and chanted their traditional music. It was a breathtaking experience.
Wall on Morada Lane. One of my favorite things in Taos.
This is inside Mable's home. It looked a little different when Dennis Hopper lived here. Oh yes... I have stories. Lots off tequila, drugs and guns... I wasn't there... just heard the stories. Have a few of my own Dennis stories. Much milder.
more to come...
